The Challenge

Many Mayan youth face a system
that was never built for them

Indigenous students in rural Guatemala are taught in Spanish a language many don't speak at home. Most communities have no access to middle or high schools, leaving families with an impossible choice: stay home without opportunities, or make the dangerous journey north.

GuateMaya Alliance exists to change that by bringing quality education directly to the communities that need it most.

43%
of Guatemala's population is of Mayan descent yet systematically excluded from quality education
<20%
of Maya girls complete high school one of the lowest rates in the Western hemisphere
75%
of indigenous people live in poverty vs 36% of non-indigenous Guatemalans
